Micro-What? Video Of Nigella Lawson Mispronouncing Microwave Goes Viral

Nigella Lawson is a British food writer and television show host. She has an immense fan following of 2.5 million across social media, and her posts and recipes are loved by all. Recently, she had shared love for the humble comfort food ‘Dal Chaval’ on her Instagram handle, much to the delight of Indian foodies. Nigella Lawson has found herself in the news yet again for the bizarre way that she pronounced the word ‘microwave’ in a video clip that has surfaced online.

The kitchen appliance was mentioned by Nigella Lawson in her show ‘Cook, Eat, Repeat’ on BBC One. In the video, we could see Nigella Lawson explaining a recipe for mashed potatoes. When she was adding full fat milk to the dish is when she used the word microwave, pronouncing it as ‘Mee-Crow-Waah-Ve’ instead. The internet was quick to capture her mistake, share it online and call it one of the ‘highlights of 2020’.

The video was shared on Twitter by a user with a sarcastic caption, “Eternally grateful to Nigella Lawson for letting us know we’ve all been mispronouncing microwave for the last 50 (or so) years.” The seven-second clip has gone viral on Twitter, garnering over 400k views at the time of writing. Several thousands of users poured in their reactions to Nigella Lawson’s faux pas. Some Twitter users said the mispronunciation was deliberate and were quick to jump to Nigella Lawson’s defence.
