The year 2020 may be coming to an end, but our focus on building immunity remains just the same as it were earlier this year. “How to increase immunity” was, in fact, one of the most searched terms on Google India this year, proving that we were ready to do whatever it took to build resistance against infections. A lot of people tried a bunch of natural remedies – while some proved to be effective, others failed to impress. But we’d have to agree that there is one upside to these natural remedies. There are hardly any side effects involved, if consumed in moderation.

So, many superfoods like ginger, giloy, amla and turmeric regained popularity because of their immunity-boosting properties. Ginger’s volatile oils are quite potent to manage symptoms of flu. Additionally, it is also enriched with antioxidants and anti-inflammatory properties. Cold, cough and flu are often tied with inflammation that results in more discomfort and delayed healing. Eating anti-inflammatory foods like ginger is thus a good idea to when you are down with cold, sore throat or flu. India’s golden spice, turmeric is also loaded with anti-inflammatory properties and antioxidants that are excellent to rev up up your immunity, many studies have claimed.

Seasonal fruit like orange is also advisable to eat during this time. Oranges are profuse with vitamin C. Vitamin C as we all know is a powerful antioxidant that helps fight disease causing free radical activity. Moreover, the citrus fruit is also a very good source of calcium, potassium, folate, thiamine and fibre.
You can combine the goodness of orange, turmeric and ginger in one juice and drink it daily for benefits.
Oranges are back in season
Ingredients:

- 2 oranges, peeled
- 1 tsp turmeric powder
- ½ lemon (juiced)
- ½ tsp rock salt
- ½ inch crushed ginger
Method:
1. In a blender, add the oranges, turmeric, rock salt, and ginger. Give everything a nice blend.
2. Serve the juice unstrained and drink
Do not drink this juice if your doctors have asked you to cut back on calcium. Also remember, it is very important to practice moderation. Chugging jugs of this juice, may end up doing more harm than good.
