Make Bareillys Famous Street Food – Aloo Moong Dal Chaat With This Easy Recipe

Bareilly’s aloo dal chaat is a must-try.

Highlights

  • Every Indian city has its own street food specialities.
  • Bareilly’s aloo moong dal chaat is a must-try.
  • Here’s an easy recipe to make it at home.

Just like any other city in India, Bareilly has its own lineup of popular street foods. The Uttar Pradesh city draws nuances from Mughal culture into its food, which is quite evident in its kebabs and chaats. Among Bareilly’s many street food items, aloo moong dal chaat is quite famous. It is mostly available in street side shops and carts but many people like to make it at home too since the recipe is very simple, requiring some commonly used ingredients.

This chatpati chaat is made with cooked moong dal, which is the lightest of all the dals and is super rich in proteins. Moong dal is combined with roasted potatoes and topped with all the chaat essentials – green chillies, onions, chutneys, coriander leaves, chaat masala and so on. Another main ingredient worth a special mention is papadi. Store-bought papadi is crushed and added to this chaat for that delectable crunch we all love in our street foods like dahi papadi chaat.

This Bareilly-special chaat tastes superb and takes hardly any time to make. Remember, yellow moong dal takes the least amount of time to cook. You can soak the dal in water in advance and also boil it in advance and keep it to assemble the chaat later.
