Madhya Pradesh Congress Expels AICC Member Over ‘Bad Comments’ on Newly-inducted ‘Godse Admirer’

The disciplinary panel of the Madhya Pradesh Congress Committee here on Monday expelled AICC member Manak Agrawal for six years over his remarks after a Hindu Mahasabha leader was extended the Congress membership recently.

Agrawal, an old time loyalist of Rajya Sabha MP Digvijaya Singh, defied the action, and said the state Congress unit could not act against an AICC member. After several leaders opposed the inclusion of Babulal Chaurasiya into the party, Agrawal had openly slammed the Congress.

He had asked MPCC head and former Chief Minister Kamal Nath to clarify whether he was with the ideology of Nathuram Godse or that of Mahatma Gandhi.

When Congress ex-president Rahul Gandhi had slammed Nath’s ‘item’ remark on then minister Imarti Devi, Agrawal had advised Nath to immediately apologise to the woman politician.

Agrawal after being expelled refused to accept the decision on technical grounds and claimed he was very much in the Congress party.

Claiming that disciplinary committee did not speak to him and also the AICC did not act against him, Agrawal said that party state unit has no right to expel him as he was a member of AICC.

He also said Kamal Nath was conspiring against him.

Senior leaders like Arun Yadav, Minakshi Natrajan and senor MLA Lakshman Singh too had slammed the move to include a Hindu Mahasabha leader in the party.

Nath had been quiet on the issuebut had spoken during the MP Rising Summit in Bhopal. “If someone wants to amend the mistake, what’s wrong in it. He had been a Congressman for over three decades,” Nath had said on Babulal Chaurasiya who had left Congress to join Hindu Mahasabha during last civic polls and won as a corporator.
