As the country continues to struggle with the COVID-19 pandemic over a year after its outbreak, it is the heart-warming stories of generosity and kinship that has been the silver lining. The internet is filled with stories of people from different walks of life coming together to make a positive impact amid the raging pandemic. From frontline workers who have been putting in long hours for months, to regular citizens mobilising funds to help the needy, India has seen some stellar stories of grit and compassion.

In one such instance, a restaurant in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh has been donating free food to those in need. Wahid Biryani, which is well-known in the area for its Awadhi cuisine, has been distributing food to the hungry.

According to a report by ANI, in order to allow maximum people to avail their services, the restaurant has been using a helpline. All you need to do is enter your name, address and mobile number on the helpline to get your hands on the food.

Currently, the restaurant is using four or five vans per day to distribute vegetarian food across the city. The report estimates that as many as 1,800 to 2,000 people are being fed by the establishment on a daily basis. The outlet also ensures that they are serving a different menu every day.

Among the beneficiaries of the donation drive are “rickshaw pullers, daily wage earners, and the helpless on the roads outside the city hospitals like Medical College, Trauma Center, Civil Hospital and Lohia Institute”.

In addition to their donation drive, Wahid Biryani is also providing free home delivery to people in different parts of the city. In this way, they are reaching out to citizens who cannot visit their centres or have been infected by COVID-19 (or any other disease), which prevents them from stepping out to obtain the food.
