  • Celeb Nutritionist Pooja Makhija shares some important facts on fruits.

Fruits are man’s best friend and there are no two ways about it. Considered to be a superfood, fruits are the most natural source of essential nutrients our body needs. Fruits are packed with vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, fibre, protein, flavonoids etc and have several health benefits. Hence, health experts and nutritionists always recommend adding at least one bowl of fresh, seasonal fruits to our everyday diet. Besides being healthy, it also keeps us full for longer and makes for a healthy option to munch on to satiate our mid-day hunger pangs.

Fruits are loaded with natural sugar. Hence, people often substitute decadent cakes and sweets with fruits to curb sweet cravings. You must have noticed a fruit bowl for dessert at every party buffet! This brings up a question – is it safe to eat fruits for dessert? It seems like celebrity nutritionist Pooja Makhija has a simple explanation for the same.

Pooja Makhija recently took to her Instagram handle to share a short video where she shares what’s the right time to eat fruits. According to Pooja, one must not merge fruits with the main meal or eat it as a dessert; instead, fruits must be consumed as a stand-alone meal to enjoy the benefits to the fullest.

Pooja Makhija shares 2 reasons why you must eat fruits as a stand-alone meal:

1. Fruits have volatile nutrition. The vitamins, minerals and antioxidants are lost waiting for their turn to be digested with the proteins and carbs of the main meal.

2. It adds to the calorie pool of the main meal you have eaten. Anything your body cannot digest is stored as fat.

“Would you like to store your innocent fruits in your body as fats?” she asks. If you want to enjoy fruits to the core, then include them in your meal “as a separate stand-alone snack,” Pooja Makhija adds.
