New Delhi:

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has wished a “speedy recovery” to his Pakistan counterpart Imran Khan, who tested positive for the coronavirus today. “Best wishes to Prime Minister Imran Khan for a speedy recovery from COVID-19,” he tweeted.

Pakistan’s top health official, Faisal Sultan, today tweeted that Mr Khan was in self-isolation at home after testing positive for the virus.

Mr Khan, 68, had been holding frequent meetings lately, without wearing mask on some occasions, news agency Reuters.

He was vaccinated against the virus on Thursday.

Most of the vaccines against the virus take weeks to generate immune response.

Mr Khan had talked about good relations with India as soon as he became the Prime Minister of Pakistan in 2018. New Delhi, however, has been calling him out over his inability to rein in cross-border terrorism originating from Pakistan.

Mr Khan’s relationship with the ruling BJP and Prime Minister Narendra Modi has also been frosty, especially after the Pulwama terror attack in which 40 Indian soldiers had lost their lives in the line of duty.

Mr Khan regularly attacks PM Modi on Twitter over a host of issues, including the revocation of special status to Jammu and Kashmir and the former state’s bifurcation into two Union Territories.

India maintains that its decision in Kashmir is an internal matter.
