New Alliance on Cards? Mamata to Meet Tejashwi Yadav Today, Delays Announcing TMC Candidate List

West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress (TMC) supremo Mamata Banerjee will not announce the candidate list on Monday even as the party holds its election committee meeting. The TMC is likely to join hands with Lalu Prasad Yadav’s Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), which has extended its support to Banerjee as it seeks to expands its base in West Bengal.

Banerjee will meet RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav at her Kalighat residence after the party’s meeting and discuss the seat sharing arrangement for the upcoming polls.

On Sunday, senior RJD leaders Abdul Bari Sidiqqui and Shyam Rajak met TMC’s election planner Prashant Kishore in Kolkata for preliminary talks on a possible alliance in the state.

On the question of RJD contesting the assembly elections in West Bengal, Free Press Journal quoted the leaders saying, “We will submit our report to the party high command, and any decision would be taken by the party. We would inform the leader of the opposition Tejashwi Prasad Yadav as well.”

Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav has already declared his party’s support to Mamata Banerjee in the state assembly polls.
