This General Assembly constituency has an estimated Scheduled Caste population of 9.57%. The estimated literacy level of the district in which this constituency falls in is 83.56%.

In the 2021 elections, there were a total of 2,69,132 eligible electors, of which 1,29,764 were male, 1,39,351 female and 17 registered voters were of the third gender.

In the 2016 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, Nehru.K.N of DMK won in this seat by defeating Manoharan.R of AIADMK by a margin of 28,415 votes which was 15.84% of the total votes polled in the constituency. DMK had a vote share of 51.3% in 2016 in the seat.

In 2011, N.Mariam Pitchai of AIADMK won in this seat defeating K.N.Nehru of DMK by a margin of 7,179 votes which was 4.65% of the total votes polled in the constituency. AIADMK had a vote share of 50.21% in 2011 in the seat.

In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, INC got the most votes in 140. Tiruchirappalli (West) Assembly segment of Tiruchirappalli Lok Sabha constituency. AIADMK won the Tiruchirappalli Parliament seat.

In the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, AIADMK got the most votes this Assembly segment and INC won the Tiruchirappalli Parliament seat.
