The festive season has officially begun in India with Sharad Navratri festivities already being celebrated in full swing. The nine-day Hindu festival that began on 17th October will end with Dussehra on 25th October 2020. It is celebrated across Indian homes with much enthusiasm with many people observing fasts (vrat) during the period to mark their devotion to the nine incarnations of Goddess Durga. People also refrain from eating meat, fish, eggs, pulses, cereals, grains and legumes. One of the most important days of the Navratri festivity is the Ashtami (eighth) and Navami (ninth).

Kale chane is one of the most important parts of the Navratri prasad.
For this recipe, all you need is to soak kala chana overnight, pressure cook it the next day right before sauteeing it with a host of spices such as amchoor, chaat masala, coriander powder, red chilli, salt and cumin seeds. And that’s all! Yes it is that easy and quick. Many people stick to the simple salted kale chane but a little bit of amchoor and chaat masala adds a zing to it.
Serve with a serving of decadent halwa and poori on Navratri and relish a wholesome meal!
