The agriculture ministry of Madhya Pradesh does not have updated information about whether Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan had promised to double up farmers’ income in the past five years.

The written reply was submitted by Agriculture minister Kamal Patel in the state assembly on a query from Congress MLA Jitu Patwari.

Patwari in his query had sought answers to four points – Whether the Chief Minister had in the past promised to double farmers’ income in five years; if yes, in which year and what was farmers’ annual income in the year; if the agriculture ministry has the annual income figure of farmers; if yes, then to share details of income from 2012-13 to 2018-19.

If the said details were not available, then how exactly the farmers’ income will be doubled up, asked the MLA.

He had also sought details of estimated and actual agricultural budget amounts from year 2009-10 to 2020-21, and how much increase or decrease was recorded in agricultural output and farmers’ income in the said years.

The written reply submitted by Patel claimed that information on all the four points mentioned in the query was being compiled.

On Tuesday, the House was adjourned after paying homage to those who died recently, including politicians and others. The opposition Congress created a ruckus and said that no tribute was being paid to the farmers who lost lives during farm agitation going on in New Delhi.
