Congress general secretary and Uttar Pradesh in-charge Priyanka Gandhi on Tuesday addressed a Kisan Mahapanchayat in Mathura where she said that Lord Krishna will break the arrogance of the anti-farmer government. Gandhi said that while Prime Minister Narendra Modi visits everywhere, he cannot go and meet protesting farmers at Delhi border.

“I am fortunate that I am standing in Mathura, the land of Lord Krishna. This land breaks the ego of many, just like Lord Krishna protected the people of this earth by lifting the Govardhan Mountain to break the arrogance of Indra, who was immersed in ego,” she said.

“Millions of farmers who irrigated land, who have kept this country alive, who sent their sons to the borders for the safety of this country, those farmers are sitting on the road. For 90 days, they have been fighting for their rights on the borders of the country’s capital. 215 farmers have been martyred,” she said. “The Prime Minister who reached every corner of the world during his reign could not reach the borders of the capital of this country in which he lives. He neither came to talk to the farmers nor did he send anyone.”

Speaking on the three farm laws, Gandhi said they have given big billionaires and industrialists a free hand to hoard crops and produce. “In 1955, Jawaharlal Nehru issued a law to stop hoarding, since then hoarders were banned under that law. Today, the government has completely exempted hoarding,” she said.

The Congress leader also visited the Banke Bihari temple to seek Lord Krishna’s blessings.
