The radio communication system is implemented across more than 3,460 route km.

In order to establish direct voice communication between loco pilots, controllers, station masters, the railway authorities introduced the mobile train radio communication system across the national transporter’s network. According to a recent statement shared by the Railway Ministry, the total amount allocated for the mobile train radio communication system (MRTC) for the financial year 2020-21 is Rs 232.54 crore. The amount for implementing the communication system across the network is completely utilized, so far. The radio communication system is implemented across more than 3,460 route km.

In a written reply to a question in the Lok Sabha, Railway Minister Piyush Goyal said that new work for the long-term evolution-based mobile train radio communication system across 34,304 route km is approved at a cost of Rs 6,861 crore.
