The Supreme Court began hearing the matter regarding the supply of oxygen by the Centre to various hospitals in Delhi today.

Centre told the top court that a survey conducted revealed that Delhi hospitals have significant stock of oxygen. “280 MT oxygen coming today by oxygen express train,” the Centre said, adding that the supply of more oxygen to Delhi will affect other states of their share.

The top court responded by saying that its formula for oxygen allocation is a gross underestimate for Delhi and that it requires a complete revamp.

It also rapped the Centre over the handling of the oxygen crisis and said, “It’s not just about allocating oxygen to states, we also need a plan for logistics.” The third wave is around the corner and that it’s time we start preparing for it, it added.

The government’s top scientific adviser on Wednesday, said a third wave of the coronavirus is “inevitable”, warning that vaccines will need to be “updated” to deal with the new strains that have overwhelmed hospitals and left thousands dead.

Meanwhile, up to 3,980 people died of Covid in India the past 24 hours, the highest in a day so far, pushing total fatalities to 2,30,168. The country also set a new grim record in its daily Covid numbers with 4.12 lakh infections.

“We Need A Plan For Covid Third Wave”: Supreme Court Tells Centre

The Supreme Court rapped the Centre over the handling of the oxygen crisis in the national capital and said, “It’s not just about allocating oxygen to states, we also need a plan for logistics.”

The top court said the third Covid wave is around the corner and that it’s time we start preparing for it.

“Third wave comes how will you deal with it?…Scientists saying children will affected and they can go into hospitals and have to accompanied by mother or father,” the Supreme Court said, adding that a plan in a scientific and consolidated way is needed.

Your Formula For Oxygen Supply To Delhi Is A Gross Underestimate: Supreme Court To Centre

The Supreme Court told the Centre that its formula for oxygen allocation is a gross underestimate for Delhi and that it requires a complete revamp.

“Centre formula for oxygen allocation on the basis of beds requires complete revamp. The formula does not take into account transportation, ambulance and Covid care facility,” the top court said.

Constitutional Authorities, Stop Complaints On Media Reports: Supreme Court

Constitutional authorities can do better than to complain and ask for fetters on the media, the Supreme Court said today on the Election Commission’s petition complaining about media reports on the Madras High Court telling the poll body it should be booked for murder for not stopping political rallies amid Covid.

The Supreme Court said the remarks made by the Madras High Court were “harsh and the metaphor improper” and judicial restraint was necessary.

However, the High Court was faced with rising Covid cases and the task of protecting the lives and liberty of people, the court said.

Delhi Hospitals Have Significant Stock Of Oxygen: Centre To Supreme Court

The Supreme Court began hearing the matter regarding the supply of oxygen by the Centre to various hospitals in Delhi today.

Centre told the top court that a survey conducted revealed that Delhi hospitals have significant stock of oxygen.

“280 MT oxygen coming today by oxygen express train,” the Centre said, adding that the supply of more oxygen to Delhi will states other states of their share.

“700 MT requirement by Delhi is not correct,” the Centre said.

With 10,521 New Cases, Odisha Sees Rise In COVID-19 Infections

Odisha registered 10,521 new COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours, the state health department said on Thursday morning.

The state also recorded 16 COVID-related deaths while 6,176 COVID-infected patients recovered from the infection over the last 24 hours.

According to the official health bulletin, the state has 81,585 active COVID-19 cases.

The state conducted 1,03,674,18 tests so far and 41,640,3 people have recovered from the disease so far.

Of the fresh cases, 5,945 were detected among people in quarantine, and 4576 were local contacts, the bulletin further said.

Ladakh Reports 251 New COVID-19 Cases

With 251 new COVID-19 cases reported in Ladakh, the total caseload in the union territory has reached 14,811, the Department of Information and Public Relations informed on Thursday.

Of the 14,811 COVID-19 cases in the union territory, 12,252 are from Leh and 2,559 from Kargil.

Out of the total fresh cases, 182 cases were reported from Leh and 69 from Kargil.

The total number of active cases has reached 1,494, including 1,264 in Leh district and 230 in Kargil district, the officials said.

Uttarakhand Allots Rs 100 Crore For Covid Vaccination Of Beneficiaries Aged 18-44

Rs 100 crore have been allotted from the Uttarakhand’s Chief Minister’s relief fund for COVID-19 vaccination for citizens between18-44 years in the state, Additional Secretary to the state government Arunendra Singh Chauhan informed.

Mr Chauhan wrote a letter to the new Director-General of Medical Health and Family Welfare and informed about the allotted fund for the vaccination.

Meanwhile, Additional Chief Secretary Manisha Panwar and Health Secretary Amit Negi held a press conference on Wednesday and informed about the efforts being made by the government to contain the spread of COVID-19 infection in Uttarakhand.

Mizoram Reports 172 New Covid Cases In 24 Hours

Mizoram reported 172 new COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours. The number of active cases is now 1,642.

DRDO Starts Construction Of 500-Bed Covid Hospital In J&K’s Budgam
Amid an acute shortage of ICU beds due to the rise in coronavirus infections in the Kashmir valley, the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has started the construction of a 500-bed COVID-19 hospital in the Budgam district to ramp up medical infrastructure, reported news agency ANI.

For this joint initiative, the Union Territory administration handed over the land, which was already identified for a hospital, to the DRDO for construction of a temporary COVID-19 hospital.

This hospital will have 500 oxygen beds and is likely to be completed in about 35 days, Ravinder Kumar, Additional Chief Engineer, DRDO said.

“There will be 125 fully-equipped ICU beds for Covid patients, including a 50-double room accommodation facility for doctors and paramedics staff,” he added.

The hospital will cover both Budgam and Srinagar and will become a lifeline for many COVID-19 patients in need of ICU facilities.

Train Coaches Converted To Covid Isolation Wards Stationed In Ahmedabad
As coronavirus cases continue to rise and put an increasing amount of pressure on healthcare infrastructures, the Indian Railways and Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) have converted 19 coaches into isolation wards, an official said on Wednesday, reported news agency ANI.

The wards have been set up at Sabarmati and Chandlodiya railway stations and are equipped with oxygen cylinders.

Manipur To Vaccinate Journalists On Priority As Frontline Workers
Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh on Wednesday declared all accredited working journalist as frontline workers and said the state government will now vaccinate them against COVID-19 on priority, reported news agency ANI.

“We recognise the effort of our journalists to disseminate news and risk they are exposed to, is no less than other frontline workers. In recognition of all accredited working journalist as frontline warriors, state govt will now vaccinate all the journalists on priority,” the chief minister tweeted.

Andhra Police Holds Covid Awareness Rally Amid Partial Lockdown In State
As part of the partial curfew imposed in Andhra Pradesh, the Srikakulam district police on Wednesday held a COVID-19 awareness rally with 10 vehicles in all major junctions of the town, reported news agency ANI.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Mahendra supervised the rally while SP Amit Bardar monitored the rally through drone cameras.

“The public should be careful of the corona infection. People must wear masks at all times and must maintain social distance. Shopping is allowed from 6 am to 12 noon only,” Mr Bardar told the media.
