Covid Cases India: 12 states, including Maharashtra, Karnataka, Kerala, UP, have more than 1 lakh cases

India’s Covid caseload has reached 2.43 crore with 3.26 lakh new cases reported in the last 24 hours. The death count has touched 2.66 lakh with 3,980 people dying of the infection.

The country’s cumulative COVID-19 recoveries have surpassed two crore mark with 3,44,776 patients recuperating in a day. This is the fourth time in the last five days that recoveries have outnumbered daily cases.

More than 18 crore vaccine doses have been administered in the country till Friday, according to the Health Ministry.

World health experts issued a grim warning on Friday that the second year of Covid-19 was set to be “far more deadly”, as Japan extended a state of emergency amid growing calls for the Olympics to be scrapped, AFP reported.  “We’re on track for the second year of this pandemic to be far more deadly than the first,” said the World Health Organization’s director-general Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus.

Second Oxygen Express to Karnataka with 120 MT reaches Bengaluru

The second Oxygen Express to Karnataka with 120 MT liquid medical oxygen (LMO) from Kalinganagar in Odisha’s Jajpur district reached Bengaluru on Saturday morning.

The third such train to the State with 120 MT LMO from Tatanagar in Jharkhand will reach here on Saturday evening, the South Western Railway said. The total tonnage of LMO from both the trains is 240 MT, SWR added.

Tamil Nadu health minister inaugurates over 1,000 oxygen-supported beds at GRH health facility in Madurai

Tamil Nadu Health Minister Ma Subramanian on Friday inaugurated 1,176 oxygen-supported beds at GRH health facility in Madurai’s Thoppur to tackle the increasing COVID-19 cases.

He said the GRH health facility in Madurai now has 1,681 beds including 1,176 with oxygen support.

In order to handle Covid-19 crisis effectively in the coming days, he has arranged 500 more additional beds with oxygen support in Government Hospital, Thoppur, which could be coming to use in a week.

“The oxygen production at Sterlite Copper paused due to technical issues would take 3-4 days to rectify. The state government had arranged the oxygen from West Bengal”, the health minister informed.

COVID-19 Updates: Thane district’s COVID-19 count up by 1,697

With 1,697 new coronavirus cases, the infection count in Thane district of Maharashtra mounted to 4,97,810, an official said on Saturday. These new cases were reported on Friday, he said. 

The virus claimed the lives of 59 persons, due to which the deaths in the district rose to 8,370. 

Thane’s COVID-19 mortality rate now stands at 1.68 per cent, the official added. 

In neighboring Palghar district, the coronavirus case count has gone up to 1,01,857, while the death toll is 1,835, he said.

Sikkim 3rd State In North-East To Impose Lockdown Amid Covid

Sikkim has called a lockdown from Monday for a week amid the COVID-19 pandemic. It is the third state in the north-east, after Mizoram and Nagaland, to impose a lockdown.

Coronavirus News: Bengal logs highest one-day spike of 20,846 COVID-19 cases; 5 doctors among 139 fatalities

West Bengal on Friday registered its highest single-day spike of 20,846 fresh COVID-19 cases, taking the tally to 10,94,802, the health department said in its bulletin. The death count rose to 12,993 after 136 more people, including five eminent doctors, died due to the infection,

PTI reported. 

Coronavirus News: Nagaland logs 275 new COVID-19 cases, 13 deaths

 Nagaland on Friday registered 275 fresh cases of COVID-19 infection increasing the tally to

17,531, while 13 fatalities pushed the death toll to 190,  a health official said.

The state now has 3,741 active cases while 13,034 patients have recovered from the disease so far, PTI report.
