Assembly Election 2021 LIVE Updates: As the battle for power in West Bengal intensifies, the leaders have been raising every angle to woo the voters — be it caste or ‘gotra’. On Mamata Banerjee saying that she mentioned her ‘gotra’ as ‘Maa, Maati, Manush’ to a priest during her temple visit, Union minister Giriraj Singh has likened her lineage to that of ‘Rohingyas and infiltrators’. Slamming the TMC chief for playing ‘gotra’ card, Singh said, “Mamata didi, now it is to be found out whether the gotra of Rohingyas and the infiltrators is Shandilya or not. Those who settled the Rohingyas for votes, those who stopped Durga puja and Kali puja and humiliated the Hindus, are now banking on the gotra in fear of defeat. ‘Shandilya Gotra’ is dedicated to Sanatan and the nation, not for the vote,” reads his tweet translated from Hindi.

Twenty-two companies of central forces will be deployed in Nandigram for the assembly polls, an Election Commission official said. The Nandigram seat, which is witnessing a fierce battle between Banerjee and her one-time lieutenant-turned-foe BJP’s Suvendu Adhikari, has a total of 355 polling booths and 75 per cent of them will have webcasting facility. The EC has also decided to deploy a 22-personnel quick response team (QRT) at Nandigram on the election day — April 1. Meanwhile, Union home minister Amit Shah will address three public rallies in Assam’s Bijni, Hajo and Dispur.

The EC has also constituted a team of officials who will supervise the proceedings in Nandigram on the poll day, the official said. “We want to ensure that free and fair polling takes place in Nandigram and for that, we are keeping no stones unturned,” the official said. “In Nandigram itself, we will deploy 22 companies of central forces. Along with them, there will be 22 personnel of the QRT who will be ready to address any situation,” he added.
