Coronavirus India Updates: The recovery rate is 88.30 per cent

New Delhi:

New cases of coronavirus infection in India were recorded over 2.40 lakh, taking the total tally of COVID-19 cases to 2,65,30,132 according to the Union Health Ministry data.

The COVID-19 active caseload is 28,05,399 which now comprises 10.57 per cent of the total infections.

The recovery rate is 88.30 per cent, the data stated.

A total of 2,40,842 new infections were registered in a day, while the death count increased to 2,99,266  with 3,741 daily new fatalities, the data updated at 8 am showed.

Meanwhile, nearly 9,000 people have been infected with mucormycosis or Black Fungus across the country, Union Minister Sadananda Gowda said today. In view of the rapid surge, the government has sent over 23,000 additional vials of a key drug used for the treatment of the fungal infection to the affected states, he added.

3 in Sri Lankan contingent test positive for COVID-19 ahead of first ODI against Bangladesh: Report

Three members of the Sri Lankan contingent have tested positive for COVID-19, hours before the opening ODI against Bangladesh here on Sunday, according to a report.

Sri Lanka is scheduled to play three ODIs against hosts Bangladesh starting on Friday. The second and third game are slated for May 25 and 28.

“Two players and a coach from Sri Lanka’s contingent have tested positive for Covid-19 ahead of the first ODI against Bangladesh in Dhaka,” ESPNcricinfo reported.

The website also stated that the Bangladesh Cricket Board has ruled out the possibility of the match being called off.

According to some other reports, Chaminda Vaas is the bowling coach in questiokn, while the two infected players are Isuru Udana and Shiran Fernando.

Black fungus declared an epidemic in Uttarakhand

Uttarakhand has joined several states across the country that have declared black fungus an epidemic.

According to the Uttarakhand health department, a large number of patients infected with black fungus are coming to the state, due to which the state government has been declared black fungus an epidemic.

A total of 65 patients have been detected with black fungus in Uttarakhand. Of which, 61 are admitted to AIIMS Rishikesh, the Uttarakhand Health Department said.

Coronavirus India Updates: 31 new cases push COVID-19 tally of Andamans to 6,820

At least 31 more people have tested positive for COVID-19 in Andaman and Nicobar Islands, taking the tally in the Union Territory to 6,820, a health department official said on Sunday.

The death toll rose to 101 as three more persons succumbed to the disease in the last 24 hours, he said.

All the new cases were detected during contact tracing.

Twenty-four people were cured of the disease during the period, taking the total number of recoveries in the archipelago to 6,441.

The Union Territory now has 278 active cases.

Coronavirus LIVE Updates: 1,001 new COVID-19 cases in Thane, 52 more deaths

With the addition of 1,001 new cases of coronavirus, the infection count in Thane district of Maharashtra has gone up to 5,08,647, an official said on Sunday.

These new cases were reported on Saturday, he said.

The virus also claimed the lives of 52 more people, raising the death toll in the district to 8,820, he said.

The COVID-19 mortality rate in Thane is 1.73 per cent, he added.

Details of recovered and under-treatment patients were not provided by the district administration.

Germany serves up Covid jabs in the company canteen

“You can get vaccinated without hardly any waiting time, it’s great,” Scharf, 58, told AFP after making the short walk from his work station to the dining area.

The usual tables have been removed to make way for rows of small booths manned by medical staff.

Over 8,800 Affected By Black Fungus, 23,000 Vials Sent To States: Minister
Nearly 9,000 people have been infected with mucormycosis or Black Fungus across the country, Union Minister Sadananda Gowda said today. In view of the rapid surge, the government has sent over 23,000 additional vials of a key drug used for the treatment of the fungal infection to the affected states, he added.
“After a detailed review of rising number of cases of #Mucormycosis in various states, a total of 23,680 additional vials of #Amphotericin- B have been allocated to all States/UTs today. The Allocation has been made based on total number of patients which is approximately 8,848 across country,” Mr Gowda, the Minister for Chemicals and Fertilisers, tweeted along with the break-up of the number of vials allocated to the affected states.
