Coronavirus Cases in India: The recovery rate is 89.66 per cent.

New Delhi:

New cases of coronavirus infection in India were recorded over 2.08 lakh, taking the total tally of COVID-19 cases to 2,71,57,795 according to the Union Health Ministry data.

The COVID-19 active caseload is 24,95,591 which now comprises 9.19 per cent of the total infections.

The recovery rate is 89.66 per cent, the data stated.

A total of 2,40,842 new infections were registered in a day, while the death count increased to 3,11,388 with 4,157 daily new fatalities, the data updated at 8 am showed.

Meanwhile, Moderna is expecting to launch a single-dose COVID-19 vaccine in India next year and is in talks with Cipla among other Indian firms, while another US giant Pfizer is ready to offer 5 crore shots in 2021 itself but it wants significant regulatory relaxations including indemnification, sources said on Tuesday.

While Moderna has conveyed to Indian authorities that it does not have surplus vaccines to share in 2021, there are limited prospects of Johnson & Johnson exporting its jabs from the US to other countries in the near future, the sources privy to discussions added.

Arunachal reports 429 new COVID-19 cases, 2 fresh fatalities

Arunachal Pradesh’s COVID-19 tally rose to 25,002 on Wednesday as 429 more people tested positive for the infection, while two fresh fatalities pushed the northeastern state’s coronavirus death toll to 104, a senior health official said.

The deaths were reported in the Capital Complex region and Upper Subansiri district, State Surveillance Officer (SSO) Dr Lobsang Jampa said.

The Capital Complex region registered the highest number of new cases at 103, followed by Tawang (49) and Lower Subansiri (42).

As many as 230 more people were cured of the disease, taking the total number of recoveries to 21,575. The recovery rate among the patients stands at 86.29 per cent.

Over 7,000 cases on average daily for lockdown violations in Hyderabad, says Police Commissioner

Nearly 8,000 cases are being registered against lockdown violators on average in a day in Telangana’s capital city for violating Covid-19 lockdown curbs according to Anjani Kumar, Hyderabad Police Commissioner.

“Nearly about 7,000 to 8,000 cases are being registered against lockdown violators and roughly about 4,000 to 5,000 vehicles are being seized on a daily basis here in Hyderabad,” the police commissioner said.

Police have been patrolling the streets to enforce lockdown in Telangana and ensure that curbs are not violated or lockdowm exemptions misued by people and further to take strict action against violators.

COVID-19: Over 17,239 MT oxygen delivered by Oxygen Express trains so far

 Over 17,239 metric tonnes of Liquid Medical Oxygen (LMO) in over 1,042 tankers has been delivered across the country by the Indian Railways’ Oxygen Express during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the Ministry of Railways said in a statement on Tuesday.

As many as 263 Oxygen Expresses have completed their journey so far, including those carrying 680 MT from Odisha, West Bengal and Jharkhand in the last 12 hours ahead of Cyclone Yaas. Eight Oxygen Expresses have moved from the region.

Tamil Nadu, Telangana and Karnataka have been delivered over 1,000 MT each. 614 MT of Oxygen has been offloaded in Maharashtra, nearly 3649 MT in Uttar Pradesh, 633 MT in Madhya Pradesh, 4820 MT in Delhi, 1911 MT in Haryana, 98 MT in Rajasthan, 1421 MT in Karnataka, 320 MT in Uttarakhand, 1099 MT in Tamil Nadu, 886 MT in Andhra Pradesh, 225 MT in Punjab, 246 MT in Kerala, 1029 MT in Telangana and 80 MT in Assam.

Coronavirus LIVE Updates: Telangana allows private hospitals, workplaces to administer COVID-19 vaccination

The Telangana Government has granted permission to private COVID-19 vaccination centres and hospitals to administer vaccinations to people above the age of 18.

As per an order on Tuesday, workplaces have also been given permission to carry out Covid vaccinations by registering on the Centre”s CoWin Portal and following guidelines.

“All designated private hospitals as PCVCs in the state are hereby permitted to carry out covid vaccination in the hospitals, as well as workplaces (on requests made by Institutions/companies/gated communities, etc) by registering on the CoWin portal and by following covid vaccination guideline,” the order said.

Telangana on Tuesday reported 3,821 new COVID-19 cases, 4,298 recoveries and 23 deaths.

Coronavirus Updates: Thane sees 656 new COVID-19 cases, 40 more deaths

With the addition of 656 cases of coronavirus, the infection count in Maharashtra’s Thane district has reached 5,11,665, an official said on Wednesday.

Besides these new cases reported on Tuesday, 40 more people also succumbed to the viral infection, pushing the death toll in the district to 8,963, he said.

The COVID-19 mortality rate in Thane is 1.75 per cent, he added.

Details of recovered and under-treatment patients were not provided by the district administration.

India-Dominant Covid Variant Found In At Least 53 Territories: WHO

The coronavirus variant first detected in India has now been officially recorded in 53 territories, a World Health Organization report showed Wednesday.

Additionally, the WHO has received information from unofficial sources that the B.1.617 variant has been found in seven other territories, figures in the UN health agency’s weekly epidemiological update showed, taking the total to 60.

The report said B.1.617 had shown increased transmissibility, while disease severity and risk of infection were under investigation.

Globally over the past week, the number of new cases and deaths continued to decrease, with around 4.1 million new cases and 84,000 new deaths reported — a 14 percent and two percent decrease respectively compared to the previous week.

Humanitarian situation, impact of pandemic remain concerns in Somalia: India at UN

India at the UN on Tuesday (local time) raised several concerns pertaining to Somalia, including the humanitarian situation and the impact of the Covid pandemic.

“The aggravating humanitarian situation, impact of Covid pandemic and desert locust, remains a cause for concern. We reiterate the call of the Secretary-General for donor support to the UN Humanitarian Response Plan, which has realized only 1/5th of its requirements so far,” said R. Ravindra, the Deputy Permanent Representative and Political Coordinator, on the UNSC briefing on UN Mission in Somalia.

The diplomat said that the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) AMISOM has been playing an important role in stabilizing the security situation and fighting Al-Shabab. “The worsening security situation and strengthening of Al-Shabab will impact not just Somalia but its neighbours as well,” the deputy representative said.

Coronavirus LIVE Updates: South Korea reports 707 more COVID-19 cases, 137,682 in total

South Korea reported 707 more confirmed cases of COVID-19 as of midnight Tuesday compared to 24 hours ago, raising the total number of infections to 137,682.

The daily caseload was sharply up from 516 in the prior day, rising above 700 in 12 days. The daily average caseload for the past week was 603.

The daily number of infections hovered in triple figures since November 8 last year due to cluster infections in the capital Seoul and its surrounding Gyeonggi province as well as imported cases.

Of the new cases, 260 were Seoul residents and 184 were people residing in Gyeonggi province.

AAP Launches ”Doctor Helpline” For Information On COVID-19, Black Fungus In Punjab
Punjab unit of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Tuesday launched ”Doctor Helpline” campaign to deal with COVID-19 and Black Fungus (Mucormycosis) infections in the state, news agency ANI reported.

Under this campaign, a helpline number 782-727-5743 has been launched through which one can get information about prevention and treatment of COVID-19 infection.

West Bengal Declares Black Fungus As Notifiable Disease
The West Bengal government has declared mucormycosis or black fungus as a ”notifiable disease” considering the gravity of the situation and following the advice of the union health ministry, an official said on Tuesday.

Citing an order issued by the health department, the official said that it has been made mandatory for a doctor to notify the authority on diagnosing a case of a confirmed or suspected mucormycosis.
