The Congress has demanded a high-level probe on Wednesday after a party leader was shot dead in Bada Malhera town in Chhatarpur, Madhya Pradesh. Two bike-borne assailants fired shots at the Ghuvara block Congress president, Indra Pratap Singh Parmar, outside a hotel in Bada Malhera while he talked to his friend on Tuesday night.

A viral video of the incident shows two bikers approaching the leader. One of them ran towards Parmar, shot him in the chest and returned to flee with his associate. Parmar was rushed to the Community Health Centre and then to Chhatarpur district hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival by the physicians.

After his death, supporters of the Congress leader went on a rampage ransacking the hospital and damaging parked vehicles. Police, in its initial probe, revealed Parmar’s murder might be over an old enmity.

Various Congress leaders, including Madhya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) chief Kamal Nath, criticised the party leader’s attack. Rajya Sabha MP Digvijaya Singh demanded a high-level probe into the murder.
