Clash of Words as BJP Celebrates Loktantra Samman Diwas, 1 Yr Without Congress Govt in MP
Former Congressman and BJP leader Jyotiraditya Scindia on Saturday took a dig at the Congress party while celebrating Loktantra Samman Diwas of one-year completion of then Chief Minister Kamal Nath tendering resignation after mass exodus in the party. Scindia, the man seen as responsible for bringing down the Kamal Nath government, said, “The Congress government was hub of corruption and the party did not care for none, neither for me, nor for the state of country.”
“Sau-sau chuhe khake billi haj ko chali”, said Scindia on the Congress party while observing the Loktantra Samman Diwas on Saturday. “Whatever is said about them is insufficient, let them care for themselves, I, Shivraj ji and BJP workers are taking care of the public and their welfare and progress”, said the Scindia family scion, alleging apathy from the Congress had left him with no choice but to join BJP in early March and was followed by 22 other MLAs that brought down the Kamal Nath government.
Nath ahead of a trust vote on March 20, 2020 had tendered resignation alleging horse trading by the BJP.
Rajya Sabha MP Digvijaya Singh when told about Scindia’s statement, hit back asking, “Scindia ji batayen unhone kitne chuhe khaye, kyunki ek saal pahle tak vo bhi Congress me the. (Let him say how many rats he ate as he was also with the Congress party till a year ago.)”
Scindia who was with Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan in Bhopal on Saturday, planted a sapling at Smart City project and underlined achievements of the Shivraj government in one year claiming that the BJP government has created new records in public welfare.
Early in the day, Congressmen, held protests at district headquarters as part of Loktantra Samman Diwas including at Bhopal. In his video message, MPCC chief Kamal Nath said it’s a government of ‘saudebazi’ so it won’t last long. Whenever in power, the Congress will complete its unfulfilled promises, he added.
The Congress leaders also read out preamble of the constitution at PCC.
Digvijaya Singh offered a slogan, “BJP hatao-loktantra bachao,” However, the Congress leaders’ weren’t allowed to take out procession towards Mahatma Gandhi statue at Minto Hall leading to clashes with the police and several party workers were arrested. Later Digvijaya Singh and other leaders left for the venue in a car and paid floral tribute there.
Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan also chose Saturday to invite Scindia and some of his ministers over a lunch to perhaps convey a message of solidarity. The Congress party was empathising a great deal with Scindia especially after he was ignored for a berth in the Union cabinet. Rahul Gandhi had even claimed that Scindia one day will have to return to the Congress party while party leaders were expressing sympathy over his depleted status in the BJP.
Digvijaya Singh had recently said that BJP reduced Scindia from ‘Srimant’ to ‘Bhaisahab’. Interestingly, MPCC had posters of exMLAs with fake currency note garlands but Scindia’s poster was missing from the bunch despite the fact he was the one who had ushered them all to the BJP last year.
