The assembly election in Assam will be held on March 27 and the counting of votes will take place on May 2, the Election Commission said on Friday as it also announced the poll dates for West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Puducherry.

Addressing a press conference, Chief Election Commissioner Sunil Arora said the elections will be held in three phases.

The Assam Assembly polls will be held to elect a total of 126 Members of Legislative Assembly (MLAs).
