While the Shiv Sena have called for introspection over the serious allegations, NCP leader Jayant Patil refuted speculations of replacing the Home Minister.

Following a row over former Mumbai Police Commissioner Param Bir Singh’s allegations against Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh, NCP chief Sharad Pawar has summoned party members, senior ministers and Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut to Delhi to discuss the matter.

Former CM Devendra Fadnavis demanded the Home Minister’s resignation and called for an impartial probe to be conducted. While the Shiv Sena sought “introspection” over the serious allegations, NCP leader Jayant Patil refuted speculations of replacing Deshmukh.

Here are the latest developments in the matter:

• Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar and NCP state chief and minister Jayant Patil will be in Delhi to meet Pawar after he called them for a meeting in late afternoon.

• Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut will also meet Sharad Pawar apart from other NCP ministers. He said that he will meet Pawar in Delhi and the NCP patriarch will “take the right decision”.

• Sanjay Raut also said that the allegations against Home Minister are very serious. “Such allegations should not be against any minister. It is time for introspection,” he added.

• Maharashtra Minister and NCP Leader Jayant Patil said the letter of Param Bir Singh is a reaction after Maharashtra CM and Home Minister decided to take a tough stand. “There is no question of replacing Maharashtra Home Minister.”

• The Bharatiya Janata Party held protests against Deshmukh and demanded his resignation. Police deployment outside the residence of Deshmukh was subsequently strengthened.

• While the Chief Minister’s Office said that the letter from Param Bir Singh was received via different email address, not his official one and was without his signature; the former Police Commissioner responded that the letter was sent through his email ID.

• Union Minister Anurag Thakur said that there should be a probe in the incident and questioned that if this was the state of Mumbai Police then one can imagine the state of Maharashtra.

• Deshmukh said that Param Bir Singh has made false allegations in order to save himself from legal action for his ‘serious lapses’.
