The issue of rising fuel prices rocked Madhya Pradesh Assembly on Wednesday as opposition Congress MLAs demanding a debate on surging price rise in fuel staged a walk out.

During the Zero Hour, Congress MLAs started demanding a discussion on the steep price appreciation witnessed in petrol and diesel. However, the ruling BJP did not agree to it.

As the stalemate continued, the Congress MLAs staged a walkout from the House and sat on dharna in front of Mahatma Gandhi statue inside the assembly campus.

Leader of Opposition Kamal Nath said that the government should have a discussion on growing prices of petrol and diesel but the Shivraj Singh Chouhan government was trying to shy away from this.

He affirmed that Congress agitation will continue on streets on fuel price hike.

PC Sharma, a former Congress minister, claimed that the BJP government was trying to suppress opposition by exhibiting Covid19 fear. To add, the district crisis management group meeting held on Tuesday has banned all sorts of agitation and protests in the city in the wake of Covid-19 surge.

Sharma affirmed that Congress party will continue with March 3 gherao of assembly and the fuel price hike issue will also be raised inside the assembly as well. After a brief protest and sloganeering, the MLAs had retreated to the house.

With a daily price surge in last fortnight or so, petrol is selling at 98.92 a litre in Bhopal while the diesel price has surged to Rs 89.21 per litre.

Congress party has been carrying out protests against the fuel price hike in the recent past. After a long gap, the MP Assembly has convened a session and budget session is underway presently.
