Priyanka Gandhi to go on ‘Nadi Adhikar Yatra’ to Woo Nishad Community Ahead of 2022 Uttar Pradesh Assembly Polls
With less than a year left for the Uttar Pradesh Assembly polls, the Congress is leaving no stone unturned to strengthen the party at organisational level in the State.
On one hand, the Congress party is busy garnering support of the farmers by doing Kisan Mahapanchayats in many parts of the State opposing the new farm laws. On the other hand, the party is also eyeing the Nishad voters which play a crucial role in the Purvanchal areas.
This is the reason why Congress National Secretary General Priyanka Gandhi Vadra has announced a joint financial assistance of Rs 10 lakh to the boatmen of Baswar village of Prayagraj, who have been allegedly victimised by the police brutality. The party has also announced the ‘Nadi Adhikar Yatra’ to be taken out soon for the Nishad community. Not only this, Priyanka has also demanded the formation of Nishad Raj Cooperative Society for sand mining.
In fact, on February 11, the Congress General Secretary and Uttar Pradesh in-charge Priyanka Gandhi had taken a dip in Sangam at Arail Ghat in Prayagraj on the day of Mauni Awasya. The boatmen of the Nishad community, who took Priyanka to Sangam, had invited her to Baswar after alleging police brutality against the Nishad community people. On February 21, Priyanka Gandhi reached Baswar and met people from the Nishad community. On Tuesday, Priyanka Gandhi tweeted in support of the Nishad society and announced financial help as well as the ‘River Adhikar Yatra’.
Priyanka Gandhi has written in her tweet that the real contenders and protectors of the river are the people of the Nishad community. “In Banswar, Prayagraj, we will fight against the oppression of the UP Police and for the rights of the Nishad community,” the tweet said. It has been written in the Congress party tweet that the Nishad families, whose boat has been broken, will be given financial assistance of Rs 10 lakh jointly.
The Congress workers will also be taking out the ‘Nadi Adhikar Yatra’ for the rights of the Nishad community. It has been said that in the matter of sand mining, the Congress party demands the formation of Nishad Raj Cooperative Society with the idea that Nishads should have primary rights over the resources of the river. It has been demanded that the government should investigate the illegal mining being done by the sand mafia and big companies and issue a white paper telling where the rivers are being mined.
