Notorious for Bollywood-style Abductions of Industrialists, Kingpin of Kidnapping Gang Held in MP

The Crime Investigation Department (CID) has arrested a kingpin of a kidnapping gang from Bihar, wanted in West Bengal’s Bardhaman district in connection with several cases of abduction and for extorting crores of rupees from big industrialists and businessmen.
The culprit, Chandan Sonar alias Chandra Mohan, was arrested from Madhya Pradesh’s Sinhalese. His accomplice Rakesh Singh was nabbed from Pune. According to sources in the CID, Chandan stole money wroth Rs 15 crore, Rs 17 crore and Rs 10 crore from big industrialists and was the most wanted criminal in five states, Bihar, Jharkhand, Gujarat, Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh.
The CID is now looking into allegations of kidnapping against the accused in several other states. Chandan allegedly abducted an industrialist in Asansol in Salanpur in April 2019 and demanded a ransom of Rs 26 million to set him free. The industrialist was rescued from Patna in Bihar about 35 days later.
Chandan had been under surveillance by the CID radar for a long time. The state police were also searching for him. The CID has claimed that all the big industrialists where abducted in the manner of Bollywood movies and were freed only after their families paid crores of rupees as ransom.
However, other agency officials, including the STF, and Vin State Police are also in contact with the CID to interrogate Chandan.
