MP Congress Leaders Slam Kamal Nath for Admitting ‘Godse Bhakt’ into Party

Bhopal: Several senior leaders in the Congress have publicly slammed the party for its decision to extend membership to Gwalior based Hindu Mahasabha corporator, Babulal Chaurasiya, a Nathuram Godse admirer.

MPCC chief Kamal Nath had extended membership to Chaurasiya on Thursday. Chaurasiya was earlier with the Congress and had left the party during the last civic polls.

Hindu Mahasabha slammed Nath, calling him a politician with “double standards” who criticises Godse’s ideology and but at the same time admits a Godse follower into the fold.

The outfit went a step further on Friday, writing a missive to former Congress president Rahul Gandhi and urging him to rename the party as Godse Congress. “The Congress had extended membership to Babulal Chaurasiya who was instrumental in installing Godse statue in Gwalior which vindicates that commoners don’t wish to join Congress party so it should be renamed as Godsewadi Congress party,” the letter said.

Jaiveer Bharadwaj, Mahasabha national vice president, affirmed that the outfit has indeed sent the letter to Rahul Gandhi.

Meanwhile, Nath is finding his back against the wall as his party seniors have slammed the move of extending ‘Godse Bhakt’ into the party.

Former MPCC chief Arun Yadav who condemned the party move on Thursday, saying, “Bapu Hum Sharminda Hain.” He followed it up on Friday, saying that ideologies of Mahatma Gandhi and Godse can’t converge. We are a party propagating Gandhi’s views.

“I am against Mahatma Gandhi’s assassin and his ideology, so I can’t sit idle,” said Yadav, a staunch Digvijaya Singh loyalist. He also sought expulsion of Chaurasiya.

Soon, he found plenty of support from within the party. Digvijaya Singh’s brother and the MLA, Lakshman Singh, said, “The central Jail is the proper place for Godse followers, not the Congress party.”

Former minister Subhash Kumar Sojatiya also backed Yadav’s demand of Chaurasiya’s expulsion from the party.

Former MP Meenakshi Natrajan too joined the chorus. “I had joined Congress after being influenced zby Mahatma Gandhi’s views. It is not right to include Godse Upasaks in the party.”

A seasoned politician, Digvijaya Singh fended off queries on Chaurasiya on Friday, telling the media, “Babaulal Chaurasiya…who is he?”
