Devprayag (Uttarakhand):
Several shops and houses have been damaged because of a cloudburst at Uttarakhand’s Devprayag, around 120 kilometres from Dehradun, news agency ANI has reported. No casualties have been reported yet, a senior official said.
“No casualties have been reported yet. SDRF teams are on their way to the spot,” Uttarakhand police chief Ashok Kumar was quoted as saying by the news agency.
According to officials, the cloudburst hit at around 5 pm, damaging nearly a dozen shops and other properties. Since most of these business establishments were closed due to Covid restrictions, no injury has been reported.
The water level in the area is rising, a police official told the news agency.
More details awaited.
This comes months after over 200 people died or went missing in the state’s Chamoli after a glacial break triggered flash flood in Rishiganga river.
Another glacier break killed eight people near the Indo-China border in Uttarakhand last month.
