After PM Modi Leads the Way, BJP Ministers & MPs to Take Vaccines in Their Constituencies as Confidence-Building Measure

Prime Minister Narendra Modi led the way as a massive inoculation drive got underway on Monday morning, taking the first dose of Bharat Biotech’s Covaxin at the All India institute of Medical sciences in Delhi around 6.25 am.

The prime minister, who donned a traditional Assamese ‘gamocha’ and was inoculated by nurse P Niveda who hailed from Puducherry, also encouraged those who are eligible to take the vaccine to follow suit.

“Took my first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine at AIIMS. Remarkable how our doctors and scientists have worked in quick time to strengthen the global fight against COVID-19. I appeal to all those who are eligible to take the vaccine. Together, let us make India COVID-19 free!,” said the prime minister on Twitter

Now, the government has decided that ministers and MPs who qualify for the vaccine in this stretch will be inoculated at their respective constituencies to send a message of confidence that vaccination is important and safe to fight against Covid-19.

All the members of BJP have been informed that they would have to take a vaccine and pay for it, leaving the free vaccines for those who cannot afford it.

Senior ministers in the government, including Union minister Ravi Shankar Prasad, will be taking a vaccine in the next few days. Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi will take the jab at Rampur in Uttar Pradesh on Tuesday.

This is the second leg of the massive vaccination drive where close to 27 crore Indians will get the vaccine.
