New Delhi:

A powerful earthquake of magnitude 6.3 struck in Tajikistan on Friday with tremors felt across North India and Delhi, prompting people to rush out of their homes.

The epicentre of the earthquake was in Tajikistan, according to India’s National Center for Seismology.The earthquake struck at 10:34 pm IST at a depth of 10 km from the surface.

However, there were no immediate reports of any loss of life or damage to property.

“Earthquake tremors felt in Delhi. Praying for everyone’s safety,” Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said.

Punjab Chief Minister Amaridner Singh said there were no reports of any damage so far in Amritsar or other parts of the state following the earthquake. “Top officials of @PunjabPoliceInd & local administration are keeping a close watch on the situation. Praying for everyone’s safety,” he tweeted.

Meanwhile, former chief minister of the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir Omar Abdullah said he “grabbed a blanket and ran” after he felt the tremors.
